Vietnam Bicycle Project: 1200 Miles, 35 Days Solo
This is an ambitious trip, there's no denying that. This journey feels like the culmination of my previous adventures, and I'm thoroughly looking forward to it. Hawken has been kind enough to give me three weeks off during this fall's "intensive" period. By leveraging Thanksgiving and winter break, I will have 35 days to ride my bicycle from Vietnam's northern capital, the bustling city of Hanoi, all the way south to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). But the trip is a lot more than that. Springboarded off of last year's three week school trip spent addressing the question "How do the Vietnamese remember the war?", my focus for this trip is going to be on the changing cultural and economic face of Vietnam. Through interviews with citizens, expatriates, and NGO organizers as well as my own travel writings and photographs, this project will culminate in a 30-page minimum senior thesis that I will present to the school.
